New Real Estate Tool in Canada Rates Climate Risks on Property Listings

A new online real estate tool in Canada is helping owners and prospective buyers understand the impact of climate change on their properties. The U.S. online real estate climate risk calculator ClimateCheck has partnered with Montreal-based platform Local Logic to provide climate risk scores, based on Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change models, for the variables heat, storms, fire, flood and drought, which are now available in Canada on Royal LePage listings and coming soon to Sotheby’s International Realty Canada and REW.ca. The scores are designed to inform, not to dictate, where people should live, and to allow them to make informed decisions on how to mitigate the risks to their homes and communities. The information is one of many factors to take into account when making the biggest purchase decision of their lives, according to Karen Yolevski, COO of Royal LePage.
